Adirondack weather and dress
We’re planning a beautiful, outdoor ceremony and celebration. The weather in the Adirondacks in mid-September can vary from hot and sunny to cool and breezy, so extra layers can help if the weather turns cool. The backyard is also all grass, so it might not be friendly for stilettos and other high heeled shoes. The will be a tent, though, so we’re covered in case of rain. We’re looking forward to getting all dressed up and celebrating with everyone!
Parking and Transportation
There will be limited parking directly at the camp, and so we will be providing a shuttle service.
For family and friends staying at cabins or motels along Route 30, a shuttle will pick up and drop guests off the day of the wedding. We request that if you book lodging on Route 30 that you send us details so we can confirm arrangements. We will have a pick up schedule closer to the wedding, and return trips will be continuous throughout the evening.
If you choose to stay at other locations and plan to drive up to Indian Lake, we plan to have parking nearby, with a shuttle from there to the camp.
We truly hope everyone has a wonderful evening, we request our guests take the safety of themselves and others into consideration and arrange for a designated driver or other means to ensure everyone gets home safely.
We’re just here for the food…
We love tasty food, and sometimes slightly exotic food. To be true to us and also considerate to those who may not be jazzed about trying BBQ stingray or beef marrow (sadly, neither is on the list), we are excited to provide a diverse menu full of flavor. Our caterer will be providing freshly cooked food that offers something for everyone, both the conservative and adventurous eater.
Directions
Driving
The camp is located at 5261 Route 30, Indian Lake NY 12842.
Driving time for guests coming from Ohio is estimated to be approximately eight hours depending upon the frequency of stops. Driving time from Albany is approximately two hours. Driving time from the Endicott or Middletown areas of New York is approximately four hours.
Note that cell phone service is not available in certain areas of the Adirondacks (and there is none at the camp), which will impair the ability to use GPS. We suggest a good old-fashioned printed set of directions, and possibly a map, just in the event GPS does not work.
Detailed directions from points west and south will be added.
Flying
The closest airport to the camp is Albany International airport (ALB). Cars rentals are available, and it will be about a two hour drive from the airport to the camp.
About the Adirondacks & Indian Lake
The Adirondack Mountains are contained within the 6.1 million acres of the Adirondack Park, which includes a constitutionally protected Forest Preserve of approximately 2,300,000 acres. About 43% of the land is owned by the state. The Adirondack Park contains thousands of streams, brooks, and lakes, most famously Lake Placid, adjacent to the village of Lake Placid, two-time site of the Olympic Winter Games; the Saranac Lakes, favored by the sportsmen who made the Adirondacks famous; and Raquette Lake, site of many of the first Great Camps.
The town of Indian Lake, located in Hamilton County, is in the Central Region of the Adirondacks. Indian Lake has been designated the “whitewater capital” of New York State. This area boasts excellent leisure activities, including hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, boating, kayaking, leaf peeping, or just relaxing and enjoying the beauty the landscape offers. There is the Indian Lake Marina that offers a variety of boat rentals on Indian Lake, which can also be used if you’re planning to camp on one of the Indian Lake DEC campsites. While the hallmark of the area is the great outdoors, the town of Indian Lake does have a movie theater (single screen, showings on Thursday-Sundays)!
The town of Indian Lake has a handful of restaurants that are primarily open in the evening. North Creek, which is a 30 minute drive from Indian Lake, has additional dining options and the closest grocery store. There is also a larger Price Chopper (a grocery store chain) in Warrensburg, which is on the way if you’re driving from the I-87.
